Neurology

Neurology is a medical specialty that deals with the physiology and diseases of the nervous system. The nervous system comprises the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. Diagnosis and treatment of diseases that develop within this system, excluding those requiring surgical intervention, are managed by the neurology department. Neurology is divided into two branches: adult neurology and pediatric neurology. Our specialists provide services not only in outpatient clinics and inpatient care but also in the management of conditions requiring intensive care.

Major Neurological Disorders:

Cerebrovascular Diseases: Cerebrovascular diseases encompass conditions such as cerebral hemorrhage and brain artery blockages. Stroke, which results from blockage of brain arteries and presents with various neurological symptoms, is diagnosed by neurology specialists who use imaging methods like MRI or CT to identify the affected area and plan treatment.

Epilepsy: Epilepsy is a disease characterized by various types of seizures, such as generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Diagnosis is made using examinations such as EEG, and treatment involves antiepileptic drugs.

Headache Disorders: Diagnosis and treatment of headache disorders such as migraine and tension-type headaches are conducted in the neurology department. Imaging methods may also be employed when necessary.

Dementia: Diagnosis and treatment of diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, which are among the most common causes of dementia, are performed by neurology specialists.

Movement Disorders: Diagnosis and treatment of various movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, and tremor are managed in the neurology department.

Sleep Disorders: Evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders such as snoring and sleep apnea are conducted by neurology specialists.

Demyelinating Diseases: Diagnosis and treatment of demyelinating diseases like Multiple Sclerosis are carried out in the neurology department.

Muscle Disorders: Diagnosis and treatment of muscle disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy are handled by neurology specialists.

Key Diagnostic Tests Performed in Neurology:

Polysomnography (Sleep Study) (Hospital and Home-based) EEG (Child-Adult, Sleep-Wake) EMG (Nerve-Muscle Test) Evoked Potentials (SSEP, VEP, BERA)

The tests conducted in the neurology department are used to evaluate disorders of the nervous system and nerve-muscle transmission and to diagnose various neurological diseases.
