Hair Transplantation

Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure used as a solution for individuals experiencing hair loss or battling with baldness. Typically, this procedure involves transplanting hair follicles from areas of dense hair growth, usually from the back or sides of the scalp (donor areas). Here are the fundamental aspects of hair transplantation:

Procedure of Hair Transplantation:

  1. Selection of Donor Area: Hair follicles are usually harvested from the back or sides of the scalp, which are areas typically unaffected by genetic balding.
  2. Extraction of Grafts: Hair follicles are harvested from the donor area using a micro-motor or manually. These follicles are usually extracted individually or in small groups known as grafts.
  3. Preparation of Recipient Area: The recipient area (bald or thinning area) is numbed with local anesthesia and prepared for implantation.
  4. Implantation of Grafts: Hair follicles are implanted into the recipient area using a specialized device or by hand. This process is performed meticulously to ensure natural-looking results with correct angles and directions.
  5. Recovery Process: The hair transplantation procedure typically takes several hours, and patients are usually discharged the same day or the next day. The recovery process is generally completed within a few days, but full hair growth and visible results may take several months.

Types of Hair Transplantation:

  1. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction): In this method, hair follicles are individually or in small groups extracted from the donor area and then transplanted to the recipient area.
  2. FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation or Strip Method): In this method, a strip of skin containing hair follicles is harvested from the donor area, dissected into smaller units with hair follicles, and then transplanted to the recipient area.

Post-Operative Care for Hair Transplantation:

  • Carefully follow your doctor’s post-operative instructions.
  • Avoid touching or rubbing the transplanted area.
  • Use a protective hat or umbrella to shield the transplanted area from the sun during the healing process.
  • Use the shampoo recommended by your doctor to cleanse the transplanted area.

Hair transplantation can be an effective method for suitable candidates, providing permanent results. However, since every patient is unique, it is important to consult with a doctor to determine if hair transplantation is the appropriate option.
